Minerals & Stones signs in the Holy Quran

The primary purpose of the Quran is to guide mankind to Allah so that they will affirm His Oneness and worship Him alone, and attain His Paradise and His pleasure. The Quran is not a book of science, medicine or astronomy, even though its verses may contain a little of such things. Allah says:

“Will be circulated for them plates of gold and cups. And therein (is) what desires the souls and delights the eyes, and you therein will abide forever.” (Surat Az-Zukhruf 43:71)

Hence the Muslim should not let himself be distracted from the greater purpose of reciting the Quran and look for the number of stones or rivers or kinds of animals mentioned therein. Allah says:

“Bring me sheets (of) iron” until, when he (had) levelled between the two cliffs, he said, “Blow,” until when he made it fire, he said, “Bring me, I pour over it, molten copper.” (Surat Al-Kahf 18: 96)

More than 3,500 different minerals have been discovered so far. Most of them combine to form rocks, like the quartz, feldspar, and mica found in granite. … This family of minerals, called gems, groups together some 50 different semiprecious stones, including agate, opal, and jade, and four precious stones.

Copper in the Glorious Quran:

Copper is a chemical element with the symbol Cu and atomic number 29. It is a soft, malleable, and ductile metal with very high thermal and electrical conductivity. A freshly exposed surface of pure copper has a pinkish-orange colour. Copper is explicitly mentioned once in the Glorious Qur’an, and implicitly twice. Allah says:

“Will be sent against both of you a flame of fire and smoke, and not you will (be able to) defend.” (Surat Ar-Rahman 55:35)

Copper was the hardest of these metals, and the most widely distributed. It became one of the most important metals to the ancients. Eventually, humans learned to smelt metals such as copper and tin from ore, and, around 2500 BC, began alloying the two metals to form bronze, which is much harder than its ingredients. And need not to be repeated here. Allah says:

“And to Sulaiman, the wind – its morning course (was) a month and its afternoon course (was) a month, and We caused to flow for him a spring (of) molten copper. And [of] the jinn who worked before him by the permission (of) his Lord. And whoever deviated among them from Our Command, We will make him of (the) punishment (of) the Blaze.” (Surah Saba 34′:12)

Iron is a chemical element with the symbol Fe (Latin: Ferrum) and atomic number 26. It is a metal in the first transition series. It is the most common element in the whole planet Earth, forming much of Earth’s outer and inner core, and it is the fourth most common element in the Earth’s crust. Allah says:

“As if they were rubies and coral.” (Surah al-Rahman 55:58)

It is produced in abundance as a result of fusion in high-mass stars, where the production of nickel-56 (which decays to iron) is the last nuclear fusion reaction that is exothermic, becoming the last element to be produced before the collapse of a supernova leads to events that scatter the precursor radionuclides of iron into space.

Allah Almighty says in The Holy Quran:

  • “Like unto preserved pearls.” (Surat Al-Waqi’ah:23)
  • “Out of them both come out pearl and coral.” (Surat Ar-Rahman:22)
  • “Every time they seek to get away therefrom, from anguish, they will be driven back therein, and (it will be) said to them: “Taste the torment of burning!” (Surat Al-Hajj:23)
  • “Verily, those who disbelieved, and died while they were disbelievers, the (whole) earth full of gold will not be accepted from any one of them even if they offered it as a ransom. For them is a painful torment and they will have no helpers.” (Surat Al-Imran:91)
  • “And round about them will (serve) boys of everlasting youth. If you see them, you would think them scattered pearls.” (Surat Al-Insan:19)
  • “Beautified for men is the love of things they covet; women, children, much of gold and silver (wealth), branded beautiful horses, cattle and well-tilled land. This is the pleasure of the present world’s life; but Allah has the excellent return (Paradise with flowing rivers, etc.) with Him.” (Surat Al-Imran:14)
  • “He has let loosed the two seas (the salt and freshwater) meeting together. 20. Between them is a barrier which none of them can transgress.21. Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinn and men) deny? 22. Out of them both come out pearl and coral.23. Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinn and men) deny?” (Surat Ar-Rahman:19-23)
  • And “Why then are not golden bracelets bestowed on him or angels sent along with him?” (Surat Az-Zukhruf:53)
  • “And there will go round boy-servants of theirs, to serve them as if they were preserved pearls.” (Surat At-Tur:24)
  • “And (Eden) Paradise (everlasting Gardens) will they enter, therein will they be adorned with bracelets of gold and pearls, and their garments therein will be of silk.” (Surat Fatir:33)
  • “And were it not that all mankind would have become of one community (all disbelievers, desiring worldly life only), We would have provided for those who disbelieve in the Most Gracious (Allah), silver roofs for their houses, and elevators whereby they ascend.” (Surat Az-Zukhruf:33)
  • “These! For them will be ‘Adn (Eden) Paradise (everlasting Gardens); wherein rivers flow underneath them; therein they will be adorned with bracelets of gold, and they will wear green garments of fine and thick silk. They will recline therein on raised thrones. How good is the reward, and what an excellent Murtafaqa (dwelling, resting place.)!” (Surat Al-Kahf: 31)

These verses confirm recent observations in open seas and oceans that marine water is classified both horizontally and vertically into bodies with different psycho-chemical characteristics, and hence life forms and sediments. Allah says:

“O you who believe! Indeed, many of the rabbis and the monks surely eat (the) wealth (of) the people in falsehood, and hinder from (the) way (of) Allah. And those who hoard the gold and the silver, and (do) not spend it in (the) way (of) Allah, [so] give them tidings of a punishment painful.” (Surah  At-Taubah 9:34)

This is simply because both corals and pearl oysters are marine water dwellers, although some pearl oysters can live in freshwater. This is simply because corals are exclusively warm, shallow-water, marine inhabitants. The Quranic precedence with this scientific fact that was only discovered in the last few decades of the 20th century can testify to the divine purity of the Glorious Qur’an and the correct prophethood of the noble messenger who received it.
